Switzerland may ban EVs to avoid power shortages this winter

Asian Tech Press (Dec 5) -- Switzerland may limit the use of electric cars to avoid power shortages this winter.

The Swiss government has drafted emergency proposals that could require buildings to be no warmer than 20 degrees Celsius, stores to reduce their opening hours and streaming platforms to limit their services in order to ensure energy security.

If the situation worsens, stores must close two hours early and electric vehicles can only be on the road if necessary.

With fewer than 110,000 electric cars currently registered in Switzerland, the measure may cause some drivers to be unhappy. However, it is worth noting that the measure is a rule in case of emergency.

In addition to Switzerland, Germany has similar regulations, which are also due to possible shortages of local electricity supply.
