Southeast Asia's Grab Starts Online Supermarket in the Philippines

Asian Tech Press (SEP 03) -- Southeast Asian ride-hailing giant Grab announced that it will launch GrabSupermarket in the Philippines further to expand its business beyond ride-hailing and food delivery to increase revenue.

Consumers in Metro Manila, home to more than 13 million people, will be able to order vegetables, meat, seafood and other groceries through the app for next-day delivery, the company said.

Grab has previously launched online supermarket services in Malaysia and Singapore and is preparing to enter Thailand this year. The company is trying to capitalize on the broader opportunity in the foodservice market to drive user growth. According to Euromonitor International, Southeast Asia's online grocery market is expected to nearly triple from $4.1 billion in 2020 to $11.9 billion by 2025. The push gate for online food delivery in the region is also expected to triple, reaching $28 billion by 2025.
