Sogou discontinues search engine app after buyout by Tencent

Asian Tech Press (Aug 12) -- Sogou discontinued its search engine app as part of Tencent's acquisition deal.

Sogou recently issued an announcement that its search engine app has formally ceased service at 11:59 p.m. BST on August 8, 2022, and the app will be unavailable afterwards, while Sogou's search engine services can continue to be accessible on the web version.

According to the announcement, from 12:00 a.m. BST on August 9, 2022, users will not be able to access bookmarks, novels and other content in Sogou's search engine app.

Nevertheless, Sogou said it will retain bookmark data for six months, and users can contact customer service representatives to export between August 9, 2022 and February 9, 2023.

The business adjustment came after the completion of Sogou's merger into Tencent in September 2021.
