Samsung ships first 3nm GAA chips

Asian Tech Press (July 25) -- South Korean chipmaker Samsung Electronics shipped its first batch of 3nm GAA chips.

Samsung Electronics held a ceremony on Monday to commemorate the shipment of 3-nanometer chips featuring Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistor architecture at its dedicated V1 line for the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography technology at its Hwaseong plant in Gyeonggi Province.

This is the first time that Samsung Electronics will use GAA 3nm process for high performance computing (HPC), and the Korean chipmaker plans to work with key partners to expand it to a variety of product groups, including mobile system-on-chip (SoC).

Samsung Electronics also plans to put into mass production of 3nm GAA chips at its Pyeongtaek plant, following the Hwaseong Campus.
