Samsung overtakes Intel as the highest annual revenue chipmaker in 2021

Asian Tech Press (Jan 20) -- According to an updated report released by research firm Gartner, Samsung overtook Intel to become the top chip seller. Intel's revenue fell to second place, up just 0.5 percent to $73.1 billion, with sales growing the slowest among the top 25 companies.

Samsung's semiconductor revenue surged 31.6 percent to $75.9 billion in 2021, thanks to a strong boost in its memory business. The company was last ranked No. 1 in 2018. The ranking is based on Gartner's preliminary results and does not include foundries such as TSMC.

According to Gartner, the overall semiconductor market grew 25.1 percent last year to $583.5 billion, the first time sales surpassed $500 billion.
