Asian Tech Press (Sep 28) -- Chip designer Nvidia Corp. intends to do the same with Apple Inc., rejecting TSMC's price hike plan for 2023.
Industry sources said TSMC will raise prices next year, by about 6% to 9% depending on the process, but later disclosed that the rate of increase was revised to 3%-6%.
However, the latest rumor is that the iPhone maker refused to raise prices, which is TSMC's largest customer, contributing more than 25% of revenue in 2021.
In response, the world's leading semiconductor foundry said on Tuesday that it would not make a comment.
Currently, TSMC's other major customer Nvidia also intends to request the same treatment as Apple.
Industry insiders predict that MediaTek Inc., which is TSMC's third largest customer, may also get an exemption from the price increase.
According to market research firm Statista, TSMC's top three customers last year were Apple in first place, then AMD and MediaTek.
