Indonesian president to meet Elon Musk amid Tesla team's visit to several local sites

Asian Tech Press (May 10) -- Indonesian president plans to meet with Elon Musk when a Tesla team is visiting several local sites.

Indonesia, the world's top nickel producer, is arranging a meeting between President Joko Widodo and Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk to discuss potential investments.

"We are still discussing where they will meet," Coordinating Minister for Investment and Maritime Affairs Luhut Panjaitan said Monday in Jakarta.

A team from the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) maker is visiting several sites in Indonesia this week, including Morowali, Panjaitan added.

Talks between Tesla and the Indonesian government have been going on for at least three years, but no agreement has been reached.

Instead, South Korean automaker Hyundai has moved ahead and built an EV plant in Indonesia, while partnering with LG Energy Solution to build a battery plant.
