India bans 22 YouTube channels citing national security

Asian Tech Press (Apr. 6) -- India announced on Tuesday that it had blocked 22 YouTube channels for spreading disinformation related to the country's national security, foreign relations and public order.

India' Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) said it banned 18 Indian and 4 Pakistan-based YouTube news channels for posting fake news and anti-India content.

The ministry said these YouTube channels used logos of TV news channels and false thumbnails to mislead a combined total of 2.6 billion viewers.
