Hyundai picks SK On as battery supplier for North America EVs

Asian Tech Press (Nov 29) -- Hyundai Motor Group has selected SK's battery-producing unit SK On to supply batteries for its electric vehicles produced in North America.

Hyundai and SK on signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, agreeing to strengthen cooperation in the supply of electric vehicle batteries in the North American market.

Under the MoU, the two companies will move forward with a cooperation project, in which SK on will supply batteries to Hyundai Motor Group's electric vehicle plants in the United States after 2025.

In the U.S., The Korean auto conglomerate plans to produce several electric vehicles at Hyundai's Alabama plant and its new Georgia plant, as well as subsidiary Kia Motors' Georgia plant.

SK on also has a plant in Georgia, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric SUV and Ioniq 6 electric sedan, as well as the Kia EV6 electric car, feature batteries from SK on.
