Asian Tech Press (Jan 24) -- According to Reuters, Apple supplier Foxconn announced that it has entered into a partnership with Indonesia's Ministry of Investment and several companies to invest in the country to manufacture electric vehicle parts in order to support the development of electric vehicles in the Southeast Asian country. It is also expected to build an iPhone phone production line in Indonesia.

Foxconn said it had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indonesian Ministry of Investment and Indonesian battery companies, energy companies PT Indika Energy (INDY.JK) and Gogoro, on a wide range of investments in electric vehicles, including battery manufacturing.

The partnership aims to establish a "new energy ecosystem" in Indonesia and includes developing supporting industries such as energy storage systems, switching stations, and electric vehicle recycling, the company said in a statement. Under the partnership, Indonesian companies will have access to its parent company Hon Hai's MIH open platform for electric vehicles.
