Asian Tech Press (Feb 21) -- A former data scientist at U.S. chipmaker Nvidia Corp. has joined South Korean battery maker LG Energy Solution (LGES).

The battery maker said Monday that Peter Kyungsuk Pyun, a former leading expert in machine learning at Nvidia, has joined the company in the newly created position of chief digital officer (CDO).

The new CDO, who jumped from Nvidia's Silicon Valley headquarters, will lead the South Korean battery to "digitally transform its entire global facilities into data-centric operations."

Pyun was one of five principal data scientists at Nvidia. He led several projects as a chief architect in the areas of self-driving cars, industrial AI and cloud AI.

He developed a system for detecting manufacturing defects, thereby improving Nvidia's quality competitiveness. And the system is now part of the artificial intelligence curriculum at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
