Counterpoint: Apple overtakes Samsung to be world's largest smartphone maker in October

Asian Tech Press (Nov 29) -- Apple overtook Samsung in October to become the world's largest smartphone vendor, according to Counterpoint.

Global smartphone sales in October were 105.68 million units, down 11% from the same month in 2021, according to a new report from Counterpoint Research.

The report said Apple was the only major smartphone vendor to achieve year-over-year sales growth in October, especially in China, where it achieved the highest market share of 25%, overtaking South Korea's Samsung Electronics to take the top spot in the global smartphone market.

Analysts noted that Apple's iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro ranked first and second in global sales in October.

While Apple overtook Samsung, Chinese smartphone makers OPPO and Vivo saw their sales decline for four consecutive months, with their share falling to the lowest level since May 2020.
