Apple poaches Ford veteran to boost EV business

Asian Tech Press (May 6) -- Apple has hired Desi Ujkashevic, a senior Ford executive who helped lead safety efforts and vehicle engineering, to boost its electric vehicle business.

Catapulted internally as Project Titan, Apple's electric vehicle project is one of the company's most secretive projects.

Sources familiar with the matter said Apple's car project is still underway, and the "Apple Car" is expected to be OEMed by long-time assembly partner Hon Hai, focusing on the high-end market and priced at a minimum of $100,000.

The "Apple Car" will be made of titanium and will allow the iPhone to be used as the key.

Apple will partner with Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai and Kia on its long-rumored electric vehicle products.

Expected to be released in 2025, the "Apple Car" will compete with Tesla's Model S. The iPhone maker has no plans to launch other low-cost electric vehicles in the future.
